Claudia Prettner

Public Policy Analyst

Claudia provides analysis and advisory services at the interface between public policy, technology and the law, such as on online content regulation, artificial intelligence, competition, data protection, online advertising and digital rights.

Claudia is an expert in EU public policy on digital affairs, data protection and legislation surrounding the platform economy. She has extensive experience in policy development for rapidly changing technologies, addressing their risks and ensuring a safe and well-functioning digital environment.

Claudia worked for seven years as Legal and Policy Officer at the European Commission’s digital department (“DG CONNECT”), where she developed policy strategies and legislative initiatives for technologies relying on artificial intelligence and algorithmic decision-making, such as online disinformation, mHealth, eID and ePrivacy. She advised the Commission on legal questions related to data and consumer protection, eCommerce and media laws and monitored Member States’ compliance with EU law in the area of ePrivacy and electronic communications. She previously worked at the Austrian Consumer Protection Association as Adviser.

Claudia holds a Master’s degree in Law and one in Business Law from the University of Innsbruck as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the International University of La Rioja. As part of her degree, she analysed the behavioural advertising model from a data protection perspective with a particular focus on microtargeting practices and sensitive data.
